ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III

Over 15 weeks, this module delved into the interplay between spatial typologies, architectural poetics, and the essence of community. It began with designing simple dwellings, exploring forms like linear, spiral, and centric layouts, each a narrative of movement and stillness, while emphasizing tectonics and the immersive experience of space. The major project invited us to craft a small community building, weaving together the threads of site context, history, and culture to embody the spirit of place and tell its story through architecture.

A three-day site visit to Melaka, including Melaka town and Encore Melaka, served as a journey through layers of history and identity, offering glimpses into the assigned culture, in my case, the Kristang community. These encounters inspired my individual project, where I translated the rhythms and resilience of Kristang heritage into a dance annex that celebrates its forgotten essence. Poetic lecture sessions throughout the semester became beacons, helping us infuse our designs with meaning, transforming them into spaces that whisper stories and evoke the soul of the place.
