1A: Site Analysis & Design Response – Design for Community
Site Analysis & Design Response establishes an understanding of the physical context and community for Project 1B and 1C
The 6-week site analysis was honestly both detailed and eye-opening. We spent a lot of time on-site doing observations, taking photos, sketching, and talking to people who actually use the park. Talking to the elderly community really stood out to me. It made me realise that small design oversights, like a lack of shade or uneven pathways, can seriously affect people’s comfort and daily routines. These things aren’t just “technical issues” on paper; they’re real problems that people deal with every day.
Working with my group was also a big part of the learning process like what I might have missed, someone else would notice, and that made our findings so much stronger. The interviews with the elderly also opened my eyes to how important it is for design to adapt to both the physical and social context of a place. All data gathered is translated into an infographic booklet. This will guide how I approach P1B and P1C so the design works for the community’s needs.
