STRUCTURE AND BODY: MATERIALS, ANTHROPOMETRIC AND ERGONOMIC EXPLORATION

Through 5 weeks of doing the bamboo project, we were assigned to design and construct a 1:1 bamboo structure placed at Kelab Kebun Komuniti Anak Istimewa P3KU, Subang Jaya. Through this project, we explore construction detail, e.g. joints, joinery, and structural quality. We developed our design through a series of workshops, tests, and investigations involving scaled study models, exploring architectural elements and principles and incorporating anthropometry and ergonomics.

REFLECTION

After much blood, sweat, and tears, my teammates and I are really proud of ourselves for finishing this 1:1 bamboo construction. We feel like it was well worth our while to stay up late to finish this project.

Looking back,  we faced various critiques that deepened my understanding of constructing real structures. When you only make a study model, actual construction is entirely different in terms of joinery details, structural size, and design. I gained valuable insights during this module project, thanks to engineer Mazlan, who shared intricate knowledge about working with bamboo.

This project has served as a stepping stone for my future as an architect. The experiences, from site visits to on-site structure assembly, have equipped me with practical knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future endeavors.
