PROJECT 1
Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street
Place identity is shaped by socio-cultural, economic, and political factors over time, influencing both physical and non-physical aspects. In rapidly globalizing cities like Kuala Lumpur, traditional streets may lose their original meanings due to urban development. Hence, I have chosen Jalan Tun Hs Lee to analyze the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual context with the place identity.
Reflection:
I have thoroughly enjoyed delving into the research on Jalan Tun Hs Lee. Previously, I used to frequently travel along this street without much consideration for its historical background or the significant developmental changes it has undergone. Exploring the evolution of Jalan Tun Hs Lee has provided me with a deeper appreciation for its historical significance and the transformations that have shaped its current state.
This project has been an enlightening journey into the factors shaping place identity. It reinforced the importance of understanding both the physical and socio-cultural dimensions of traditional streets. The insights gained will be valuable in future architectural and urban studies, emphasizing the need to preserve and appreciate the historical and cultural contexts amidst modern transformations.
